Where it starts
You don’t have to be new to horses to suddenly feel like you have no idea what you’re doing.
In some ways, it is actually worse when you’re not new.
You’ve ridden before. You’ve owned horses before. You’ve had lessons, listened to good trainers, picked things up over the years and built a way of doing things that usually makes sense to you.
Then one horse comes along and quietly starts pulling holes in all of it.
Maybe something that worked beautifully with your last horse seems to get absolutely nowhere with this one. Maybe a behaviour appears that you can’t quite read. Maybe the horse feels different under you, reacts differently on the ground, becomes tense in a situation you thought should be simple, or just leaves you with that uncomfortable feeling that something isn’t adding up.
And suddenly, instead of feeling experienced, you feel like you are guessing.
That can be a difficult thing to admit, even to yourself. Because when you’ve spent years around horses, there is a little voice in the back of your head telling you that you should know what to do. You should recognise what is happening. You should be clearer.
So you try.
You ask someone at the yard. You speak to your instructor. You watch a video from somebody you trust, then another one gives you a completely different approach.
Before long, you are not just trying to solve the original problem.
You are trying to work out which explanation you even believe.
That is when the second-guessing starts.
Did I push too much? Did I back off too quickly? Was I asking the wrong question in the first place?
The problem is not that every trainer is wrong, or that YouTube is useless.
It is that most horse advice reaches you one piece at a time.
One clip about leading. One lesson about spooking. One post about pressure and release. One explanation of body language.
Useful pieces, sometimes.
But you are still the person standing in front of your own horse deciding which piece matters now.
The horse in front of you does not arrive with a label telling you which video to watch.
That is why collecting more answers does not always make you feel more certain.
Sometimes it does the opposite.
The fragments
“Ask someone at the yard”
“Speak to your instructor”
“Watch another video”
“Try a different method”
“One explanation says one thing”
“Another says something completely different”
You need more of the picture.
You need to understand what you are actually looking at. You need enough context to know why something might be happening, what else you should be paying attention to and which part of your knowledge is actually relevant to the situation in front of you.
Because no trainer, instructor, course or horse professional is going to be standing beside you for every interaction you ever have with your horse.
There will always be moments when it is just you and the horse.

Meet Elle
I learned this the hard way too.
I’ve spent nearly two decades working professionally with horses, and one of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that experience does not make every new horse easier.
You build habits and instincts around what has worked before. Then a different horse comes along and shows you where those assumptions stop working.
I’ve worked with horses in very different environments, from the UK to the Seychelles and Spain, managing horses, teaching, training and running horse businesses along the way. Every new place, every different type of horse and every new challenge forced me to look again at things I thought I already understood.
And over time, one thing became very clear.
The best horse people I knew were not simply the ones with the biggest collection of techniques.
They noticed more.
They paid attention to what the horse was showing them, what had happened before the behaviour appeared, what their own body was communicating and how all of those pieces fitted together.
That changed the way I thought about horsemanship.
Instead of asking only, “How do I stop this behaviour?” I started asking better questions.
- What is the horse telling me here?
- What happened just before this?
- What am I communicating without realising it?
- What does this horse already understand?
- What might I be missing?
Those questions do not always give you an instant answer. But they give you somewhere much better to start.
Because horsemanship is rarely one isolated problem.
A horse does not separate itself into neat categories. Behaviour affects communication. Communication affects confidence. Your own tension can change the interaction. Groundwork influences what happens later. Management, environment and physical state can all matter too.
That is why learning one technique at a time can only take you so far.
The goal is not to memorise an answer for every possible problem. It is to build enough understanding that when something changes, you have more to work with than guesswork.
That is the idea behind Paradise Stables Academy.
This is the first time I’ve brought my approach together in an online Academy. It’s a new format for me, but it’s built from the work I do with horses every day.
“The lesson was well constructed... explained in a clear and fun manner.”
The Academy
This is exactly why we built Paradise Stables Academy.
Paradise Stables Academy is a structured, self-paced education built to help you understand more of the horse in front of you and see how the different parts of horsemanship actually fit together.
You can work through it from the beginning, or return to the areas that matter most when a new question comes up.
And because you keep lifetime access as a Founding Member, it is designed to become something you return to over time, not something you rush through once and forget.
The pathway
The Academy is built around four connected areas.
Each gives context to the next, helping you understand the horse, the conversation between you, your own part in the interaction, and what you take into practice.
- 01Stage
Understand the Horse
Before deciding what to do, start with what the horse is actually showing you: natural behaviour, brain and body, emotional and physical state, and the context around the response.
- 02Stage
Understand the Conversation
Then look at what is moving between you: body language, energy, clarity, boundaries, timing, pressure and release, and how communication works in both directions.
- 03Stage
Understand What the Horse Reads in You
Your tension, fear, habits, preparation and confidence can all change the interaction. This stage brings the human side into the picture too.
- 04Stage
Put the Pieces Into Practice
Bring it together through groundwork, handling, observation and the everyday situations where understanding has to become action.
This isn’t a library of horse videos. It’s the stuff you wish you’d understood sooner.
Start at the beginning, or jump to the area that matters to the horse in front of you. Either way, the modules are designed to connect back to the bigger picture rather than sit as isolated lessons.
The Academy starts with orientation rather than technique, so everything that follows has something to sit on.
- Why the Academy starts with foundations rather than fixes
- The Paradise principles behind the way the material is taught
- Why going back to basics is worth the time
- The four pillars the Academy is built around
- How to use the Academy in a way that suits you
A lot of horse problems make more sense when you stop looking at the behaviour in isolation and start with the animal underneath it.
- Why the wild horse environment still matters when thinking about the modern horse
- What herd structure can teach you about behaviour and social context
- How domestication changed the environment without removing the horse’s basic survival instincts
- Why movement, grazing and daily rhythm belong in the bigger picture
You cannot make a good decision if you are misreading what the horse is showing you.
- How the horse’s survival and learning systems influence what happens next
- What fight-or-flight looks like before the reaction becomes obvious
- Reading body language from nose to tail rather than relying on one signal
- Recognising changes in emotional and physical state
- What your horse may already be reading in you
A cue does not happen in isolation. The horse is reading how you approach, move, ask, release and respond.
- What leadership can look like without reducing it to dominance
- How horses notice energy, movement and body communication
- Why clarity matters before asking for more
- The role of pressure and release, timing and fairness
- How boundaries can become clearer without creating fear
- Why feel and awareness matter more than memorising a sequence
The horse is not the only one bringing a nervous system, history and habits into the interaction.
- What your own nervous system can change about the interaction
- How fear, preparation and small steps can affect what happens next
- The difference between confidence and simply pushing through
- What happens when your habits shape the horse’s expectations
- Why progress includes mistakes, repair and continued learning
- Bringing curiosity into situations where judgement usually takes over
Groundwork is where a lot of communication becomes visible before you ever put a foot in the stirrup.
- Why safety and mutual awareness matter from the beginning
- Leading as communication rather than simply getting from A to B
- Backing and yielding the hindquarters
- Moving the shoulders and creating balance
- Standing still as a skill rather than an absence of movement
- Introducing lunging with more purpose
- Using obstacles to build clarity and confidence
Feeding advice can become just as fragmented as training advice. This educational training module covers the fundamentals of feeding and nutrition, giving members a clearer foundation for understanding the principles behind everyday feeding decisions. The Toolkit includes an accompanying Fuelling The Horse reference and workbook.
- How the horse’s digestive system shapes the basics of feeding
- Why forage sits at the centre of the conversation
- What owners should understand about sugar and starch
- Where concentrates fit and where they can complicate things
- Water, salt and electrolytes
- Vitamins, minerals and supplements without assuming more is always better
- Why different horses may need different approaches
- Common feeding mistakes owners can learn to recognise
PSA is not built around one universal technique.
It is built to help you understand more of the context before deciding what comes next.

Keep lifetime Academy access, future Academy updates, future major Academy versions and proprietary tools added inside PSA under your Founding Member terms.
A good course is only useful if you actually use it.
Real life gets in the way.

That is why the Founding Membership also includes practical tools built around starting, revisiting, practising and finding the right material again.
Practical Tools Included
The PSA Toolkit
Seven practical tools are included with your Founding Membership.

Community & support
You won’t be left alone with a set of recordings.
The Academy lives between the lessons.

Paradise Stables Academy includes access to a private member community where you can ask questions, learn alongside other members and keep the conversation going beyond the lesson videos themselves.
Elle and the Paradise team will be part of that environment too.
That does not mean private one-to-one coaching in disguise, and it does not mean every horse or every situation can be solved through a comment thread.
But it does mean you are not simply buying a course, being handed a login and left to fend for yourself.
When you need more clarity, you have somewhere to ask, somewhere to discuss what you are learning and somewhere to keep the conversation going.
The Academy is new. Paradise Stables isn’t.
Paradise Stables is a real working horse business, with 23 horses under our care and operation, real clients, real lessons and the day-to-day responsibility that comes with looking after horses properly.
The Academy itself is new.
The people, horses, teaching and operation behind it are not.
And while the reviews below come from people who experienced Paradise Stables itself rather than the Academy, they give you a good idea of how we work.

“I have stabled my horse Mejicano with Elle for the past 4 years. He has never been fitter, healthier or happier. Elle has deep knowledge of equines and cares deeply for every horse in her care.”

FAQ
Before you join, a few things worth knowing.
If you’re still weighing something up, there’s a good chance it’s answered below.
No.
A big part of the Academy is designed for people who already have experience but have reached a point where something no longer feels clear.
That might be a different horse, a new responsibility, a confidence setback, a training issue, or simply the feeling that you want to understand more than the techniques you’ve picked up along the way.
Newer owners can benefit too, but this is not a ‘how to sit on a horse for the first time’ course.
The Academy is most useful when you have regular access to a horse you can observe and learn alongside.
You do not need to be riding at a particular level, but having a real horse context makes the material much easier to apply.
No.
And it is not supposed to.
A good trainer or appropriate professional can see things in person that a digital course cannot.
The Academy is there to help you understand more between those moments, revisit concepts, ask better questions and make better use of the help you already have.
That is exactly why the Academy is built around understanding, observation and context rather than one rigid formula.
You will see principles, examples and reasoning that help you think more clearly about what you are looking at.
Some situations will still need someone experienced standing there with you.
Founding Members keep lifetime access to Paradise Stables Academy.
That includes the Academy you join, the two additional modules planned after launch, future Academy updates and future major Academy versions under the Founding Member terms.
Yes. You can either pay the £249 enrolment price in full, or choose 3 monthly payments of £85 (£255 total).
Both options include the same Founding Member access and entitlements.
The payment plan ends automatically after the third payment. It is not an ongoing subscription.
You can post questions inside the private member community at any time.
Elle and the Paradise team participate there, with a working response target of around 24 hours.
This is shared community support rather than private one-to-one coaching or direct-message access.
Enrolment is sold on a no-refund basis, so we want you to look through the offer, curriculum and what is included carefully before joining.
Everything is laid out clearly so you can decide whether it is right for you before purchasing.
One last thing
You’re always going to find another horse video to watch.
Another opinion to ask for.
Another method.
Another person at the yard telling you what worked for them.
And there is nothing wrong with continuing to learn from all of those places.
But eventually, you have to decide whether you want to keep collecting individual answers every time something goes wrong, or whether you want to build a stronger base of understanding that you can keep coming back to when the answer is not immediately obvious.
That is what we built Paradise Stables Academy for.
Not to give you one perfect answer for every horse you will ever meet.
But to help you understand more of what is happening in front of you, connect more of the pieces, and feel less like every new challenge sends you straight back to square one.
If that sounds like what you have been missing, we’d love to have you inside as one of the first Founding Members.
